The 8th Scottish Gathering was held at The Royal Scots Club, Edinburgh on Saturday 12 May 2018. Members and guests gathered in the bar while Karen Minchin ensured that everyone had tombola tickets for the copy of Blue and Old Gold, kindly donated by the UK Branch. As a number of the members advised they had a copy of the book, a BSAP umbrella was offered as an alternative. Lunch was served in the members’ dining room, suitably adorned with flags and items of BSAP uniform. Grace was delivered by Bruce Allen in the absence of his wife Paddy. Lunch was broccoli and blue cheese soup, roast chicken, haggis balls and crispy bacon, seasonal vegetables and potatoes. Dessert was chocolate and salted caramel slice and mocha cream. Peter Phillips proposed the toast to The Regiment. Rob and Karen Minchin conducted the tombola and first prize was won by Peter Botwright, and the BSAP umbrella was won by Kathleen Hilliard. A total of £80.50 was raised: stock sales realised £66.50. Our thanks to Eric Robb and Rob Minchin for another most enjoyable gathering. It allowed us to catch up with old friends and swop tales of the BSAP and Rhodesia’s characters.
